When you think of motocross you usually think about guys racing and maneuvering dirt bikes through various different obstacles as fast as they can. The first time we met Laura and watched her ride it was very impressive. The 250cc dirt bike she rides is just as big as the boys and she definitely knows how to ride and maneuver it. She had recently moved to California from France and communicating was sometimes difficult but we managed to get an interview with her and her english is really good actually. She has many sponsors that help her out and is a big part of the French motocross scene.

Laura Bruneau (LB) – Bonjour!

Adrenaline Fueled (AF) – So you just moved to Riverside, California from France. What made you decide on Riverside?
LB – California is so far the best place to ride motocross, and Riverside is perfect because all tracks are like 30 min from my house.

 

AF – What is your favorite track to go riding at?

LB – I like Cahuilla Creek

 

AF – Is there anything you miss about France?

LB – I miss the food so bad! And my family for sure!

 

AF – How did you get involved in riding and racing motocross? How long have you been riding?

LB – My brother was an ex professional rider. I still wanted to do the same thing, but i was competing seriously in jumping with my horses, and my dad was scared to buy me a bike, but at 17 he told me. Ok, lets buy a bike, and it really started!

AF – What kind of bike was your first one? What are you riding now?

LB – My first one was my scooter at 14 years old. (laughs) I did jumps with it! I actually ride a 250 Kawasaki now.

 

AF – What is it like to be a female in the motocross world?

LB – I have two brothers, and I had grown up in motocross tracks, so I’m more comfortable in a guys world, they are more funny than girls. (laughs)

AF – What is your favorite thing about riding your motocross bike?

LB – I think it’s the same with every sport. You feel bad when you stop. Its like a drug.

 

AF – Have you ever had a bad crash?

LB – I already had 9 fractures, so yes I can say I had bad ones. The worst was when I broke my hip, collarbone and my hand in the same time. I had to spend one month in an hospital bed.

AF – Is there anyone that you look up to? Who’s your favorite rider?

LB – I’m not really a fan, but Travis Pastrana is the coolest dude I think!

 

AF – I understand Motocross is not the only sport you enjoy. What other sports do you participate in? Do you compete in anything else?

LB – I ride in Snowscoot. I did my first competitions last year, and it’s a lot of fun! I also like Mountain bike, wake boarding and I still like horse riding.

 

AF – Are there other sports you’d like to try?

LB – I would like to ride in downhill mountain biking, but it’s as expensive as motocross, and it’s impossible to do everything.

AF – Cheese rolling is very popular in France. Have you ever participated in a cheese rolling event?
LB – (laughing) It’s a legend, I’ve never heard about this before.

 

AF – How is the food in America compared to France? How do you like Americans eating habits?

LB – In America there is a big problem with the products, it’s too fake, apples looks like plastic, milk have no taste, in France we eat a lot Organic food, and cook. Fast foods are really occasionally for us!

 

AF – Who do you ride for? Would you like to give any shout outs to friends?

IDGR Dollar Race – Quail Hill

Sunny and already tired I headed over to check out the race. Finding out the semi finals were going by I quickly skated and power walked up the hill to get my spot. It seemed like a never ending flow of many familiar and many unfamiliar faces flying by. Unsure of what was going on I just started snapping some pics. It wasn’t long until what turned out to be the final heat went by (The results are shown below).

It was great seeing all the familiar faces I haven’t seen in some time. Many first time racers and many stoked families. The race only cost a dollar so it was to be taken lightly and meant to be fun which it was. I have to admit this was much cooler than I thought it was going to be! – Leecifer

California Slide Jam

The California Slide Jam hill looked fun and promising until the cops showed up before we even had a chance to start. With the first hill busted and no planned backup hill we relied on local Drew Edwards and his extensive local hill research to take us to a new hill. “It’s with in skating distance, it’s really close.” We skating for around 10 minutes with the sun blazing and walked up this hill until we got to the next spot. My armpits and back already soaked in sweat from my backpack and the intense sun rays beating down upon me. (I would have rather had brought my car as the day progressively got hotter and hotter.)

The 2nd hill was a private road (according to the residents) that had a few houses off of it and Drew’s friend lived in one of those houses. We weren’t even there 5 minutes before we were told that it was private property and we had to leave. 5 minutes after that a different neighbor told us that we were unwanted and they were going to call the cops. “We are supposed to tell them that you know someone who lives here.” With that Drew pushed hard and fast to see if his buddy was home. He wasn’t so we moved on to the next hill

We were skating to the 3rd hill and it was all uphill and it did not seem very close. Ali Mehreban and I decided to turn around, go all the way back to the 1st hill to grab the car and see if we could beat everyone there. We skated for awhile, in fact the car was much farther than I had remembered. We finally made it to the car. We found another skater waiting to try to find where the hill had been moved to. He followed us and we easily caught back up to everyone skating to the next spot. Kids begged for rides and tried grabbing onto the car to let us pull them to the next hill. We left most of them in our dust.

We finally made it to what would be our final destination in our journey around some of the hills of Fallbrook. The ramp was put out and the competition was underway before people even knew it. Judging was done by Max Capps, Ali Mehraban and Michael Hinze.

There were lots of kids shredding it up and most of the kids who were hitting the ramp were also attempting 180′s and we even saw some 360 attempts. Although no 360′s were landed plenty of 180′s and a few no comply’s were landed. Not to mention all the different variations of slides. There were attempts at techsliding, we saw some hard wheel sliding and every variation of stand up slide I know of. We skated until the cops came to tell us they got another call and we couldn’t skateboard anymore in Fallbrook that day. “This is my second time talking to you guys and now you’re wasting my time” said the cop. “We won’t skateboard anymore but would it be alright if we finished our bar-b-que” asked Brett Ciabattini.

We ate hot dogs, did the podium. Passed out some shwag and everyone left. It ended up being a somewhat successful day and everyone had a good time. – Leecifer Eisler

Sometimes snowboarding along with any other action sport is all about finding those hidden gems. Its why we do the things we do. Our goal is to explore terrain in order to find that perfect feature.
